I've been to multiple detoxes and rehabs, and the only place I ever actually managed to get it was here. The process of recovery is exactly that, a process. There is no magic wand, no re-set button, no insta-sober miracle. You have to do the work involved in building a solid foundation that you can finally build a new life on. I was a heavy duty user of many substances, completely insane and irrational, and absolutely considered a lost cause. Everyone had written me off- I had written me off. I didn't want to be at ASI, and I had a huge defensive wall up and an attitude to match. If not for the love, support, and base honesty of the incredible staff, and their completely bullshit free approach, I wouldn't be where I am now. After accepting the fact that I really was exactly where I needed to be, and realizing that these people really did know what I had been through, and, that if I didn't change absolutely everything, I was going to die, I let down enough of my wall to let the first ray of hope I'd felt in a very, very long time. It was the most productive and liberating month of my life, once I stopped fighting myself. The only way to find yourself is to go through the mess you've created and start to clean it out. If I hadn't had the encouragement and unfailing support and honesty of the ASI staff, I wouldn't be where I am now, and I am in a good place, closing in on my first year of sobriety, in my own apartment, and in contact with family I thought I has lost forever. I'm far from done fighting for my sobriety. I have a whole lifetime of work to do. But because of my experience and the support I received while there, I am working from a strong foundation and a clear -eyed, honest outlook at a future that can be anything I can create for myself. I have hope and faith, and it started with ASI. But you have to want it, and be willing to do the work, because only YOU can change YOU. ASI can help make it a reality.
